Call for Musicians & Crafters: AIR Project 2026 Launches in Knysna!
The Western Cape Arts Festivals (WCAF), in partnership with the Ariva Arts Foundation, Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), the Knysna Municipality, is proud to launch the African Indigenous Renaissance (AIR) Project 2026 in Knysna!
This transformative 3-month training and development programme is designed to empower emerging musicians and crafters with skills in indigenous music, crafts, and creative entrepreneurship.
Building on the success of the 2025 pilot in Kranshoek, the AIR Project continues to celebrate and preserve living African heritage through hands-on learning, mentorship, and public performance.
What You’ll Learn
Participants will receive expert-led training in:
- Indigenous music and performance (Uhadi, flute, drums, and shakers)
- Traditional crafts (Matjies Huis building)
- Business, events, and marketing management
- Cultural storytelling, self-development, and festival production
The programme culminates in the AIR Festival 2026, taking place on Human Rights Day – 21 March 2026, where trainees will perform and exhibit their work in a large public celebration.
